Ex Game 4: Terminators
On a rare warm day of the season... the ice conditions were a
little slicker than expected, but the puck didn't like to
stay flat. A rematch of last year's division teams was in
the mix. A late game day decision put Degrave between the
pipes as Knights continue to stop rumors of Ted in a
contract dispute. "There is no goaltender controversy. Ted
has been signed and both parties are happy with the
situation.", commented Rondingo before Thursday nights game. The entire team played
in this one with Scott and Blaine taking part in their first
game of the year. The game started in the Knights favor on
an early goal by Steve to put the Knights up 1-0. The game
became 2-0 on a Rich top of the circle shot that hit the
defender in front of the net watching Stepper to deflect in.
Once the second period started, the Knights found themselves
in penalty trouble, which seemed to follow the Knights
throughout the game. A penalty shot was once awarded to the
Terminators after a great diving save by Steve to catch the
breakaway chance and hitting the puck first. The penalty
shot turned away by Ray anyways. The penalty kills were
superb by the Knights and it lead to a breakaway goal by
Stepper after Rich continued to put the pressure on the
defence to give up a bad pass. The Terminators found the net in the second to cut the
lead to 3-1. The lead became 3-2 before Steve squeaked one
in to get the lead back to 4-2 in the third. The Knights
completely colapsed again and the score was 4-3. A late shot
at an empty net by Stepper missed, but Steve was
there to get the puck and a miscue with Scott allowed the
Terminators to walk up the ice and score with 16 seconds to
tie the game 4-4. A clean win on the draw to Cory to shoot
it up the boards to the Terminators corner where Stepper
sprinted to the puck and fed a perfect pass to a streaking
Scott to deflect it in the net and pull out the win 5-4!
What a finish! Wendel Clark was not in the stands for the
game, but early impressions are encouraging in Dingo's and
Golinski's improvement.
Ex Game 3: Transcona Classics
Game 2 was a complete reversal of the first game.
The Classics goalie was from the old school with his classic
Grant Fuhr
(circa 1981) mask. The mask probably got in the way though,
the game was 2-0 before the first line got off the ice. The
snow continued throughout the game, but the Knights didn't
take mercy on the Classics. The shots on net were on the
Knights side and apparently Cory went to the hospital with "slapshotitis"
after hammering the net with shot after shot. He is
day-to-day. With a knee injury to Adamus, the D was down to
2 guys (Blainer still hungover), but that didn't change a
thing. After complaining to himself for shooting the puck
into the goalie's chest all the time, "maybe i should have
the foam targets in the corners to shoot at", OVL dazzled
the fans soon after the comments were made. After pulled the
puck out in front to the net, Steve does the spin-a-rama and
picks the top corner. With the injury to Adamus, OV (geeks
scout) put on the purple jersey... yes the purple jersey!
Paparazzi photo inserted below. Well... after getting the puck, he
fanned on a pass immediately... the Knights have since
demoted him back to the minors... I mean Geeks. Rondingo and
Golinski were having a tough time in this one. From falling
to the ice in front of the Knights bench (Rondigno) to
getting nothing on wrist shots for Golinski. The crazy duo
have been sent to the Wendel Clark Hockey Camp to help on
their imbalances. The faceoff combo of Steve and mark got
nearly everything... 85% of the faceoffs was estimated. There were several great plays which
included Steve on a one timer goal, a breakaway goal by the
Stepper for the hat-trick, the defensive wall of Degrave and Cory and Horn in
net to shutdown the Classics... with the snow now layering
the ice, the final was 8-1.

Game 2: East Side Bucs
With a constant snow fall all day... the idea of a
game without snow on the ice was gone. The zamboni cleared the ice just in time for
the snow to make its way back on. By the end of the first
period the ice was covered again! So goes the life of a
spongee game! With the conditions set, the Knights were
looking to play their first in a week. At hand were the East
Side Bucs. Goalie Ted was sent down for conditioning to the
minor league affiliate, Brent Horn get the call up from the
Geeks. The game was in the Bucs control for the most part
b/c of great passing and keep away from the Knights and they
score the first of 3 straight goals early on. The Knights
finally figured out the wall in the pipes for the Bucs as
Step was able to score in the slot after everyone kept
banging away. This was little too late for the Knights
though in this game. The snow made passing and shooting the
puck extremely tough and on this night the knights were
outclassed, but only for one game! Hornville was the master
in the pipes for the night with a "Geeks" scout, OV, on the
sidelines watching trying to figure out how to save the
Geeks season before it becomes a disaster! Make the final
4-2 Bucs after a late goal by Rich!
Ex Game 1: THC
The drop of the puck to start the 2005-06 campaign with here.
Mark focused on winning the first draw to set the tone of the
season. And by winning the draw, the season was off to a good
note. 3 players on the injury block before the game even
started. Stevie Y battled the symptoms of the bird flu
(concussion) was on the bench coaching. Scott is on the IR
with a knee injury and was MIA. Blainer, the latest
acquisition to the Knights was hung over after signing the
contract to play with the Knights. The Knights started quickly
and were all over the place, but lacked shots on net. THC
found a guy breaking free on the breakaway and scored on their
first shot of the game basically. Not the start the Knights
wanted. THC made it 2-0 in the 2nd after the Knights failed to
clear the puck multiple times from their own end. The Knight
found the scoreboard on a long breakout pass by Stepper to
Dingo and a laser wrist shot beat the goalie. Dingo now has 4
goals in 2 games. The Knights tied the game before the 2nd was
over on a point shot by Cory, which missed the net, but
bounced off the back boards and Mark was able to pull it out
front and pot home the goal. The Knights seemed to have THC on
the ropes for most of the game with the great defence of
Degrave, Cory and Brian (sub). With the multiple stops and
clear out passes, the Knights capitalized on another great
play from Ron to Golinski to the back of the net. But before
the game finished, THC got a fluky goal on a point shot and
tip-in to beat Ted to tie the game. The first game for Ted was
successful. Coach OVL response to how the Knights played,
"Yes, was very impressed with the positioning, breakouts and
patience we displayed last night. Geeks would have benefited
from watching. Maybe time for me to make the transition to
coaching, like Gretzky."
